The team volunteered in shifts at local charitable organization Mothers Matter
With gratitude for the community support that they received throughout the year, members of the Washington Township High School girls lacrosse team spent time on March 25 in support of Mothers Matter — the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation.
The student-athletes worked in shifts to assist with the organization’s large Mother’s Day project, sorting donated personal care items and preparing gift bags. The bags will be donated to daycare centers, nursing homes, medical-pediatric daycare and rehabilitation facilities, women’s shelters and agencies, hospital wards and facilities such as Samaritan Hospice, My Sister’s Place, Robin’s Nest and the Memorial Veterans Home in Vineland.
Mothers Matter is an all-volunteer charitable organization based in Washington Township. The organization’s goal is to help all mothers in need, regardless of age, race, social or economic background. The foundation honors the memory of Lauren Rose Albert, who was killed in a car accident in Morocco in 1999, leaving behind a husband, three children and a close-knit family. She is remembered as an activist for causes and a volunteer who helped others less fortunate than herself. Several members of the WTHS lacrosse team volunteer at Mothers Matter routinely and helped facilitate the team’s community service project.
“Our coaches and athletes felt the need to give back to the community,” assistant coach Alexandria McBride said of the team that is directed by longtime head coach Sandy Stockl. “We found the experience incredibly rewarding and look forward to our next visit.”
