Also, Committee makes LOSAP more enticing and add new active member to fire company
The Shamong Township Committee unanimously authorized the sale of a township-owned property on Strawberry Drive. During last week’s meeting, township administrator Sue Onorato mentioned the property had been up for bid in previous years but that a deal was not reached.
The property, which sits 111 Strawberry Drive, will be sold as-is and require a $3,000 deposit along with an intent to bid form. The bid minimum will be set at $70,000.
Onorato also stated the property has recently drawn interest. One stipulation that will be placed on whomever bids successfully on this plot of land is that even though the land is a double lot, only one house would be built on it.
The money that is raised from the bid will be used toward the costs of the township’s proposed cemetery.

• Committee approved a change in the Length of Service Award Program that would make the program more enticing for people to volunteer for the emergency services departments in the township. The current program gives volunteers the opportunity to earn points through service length, training participation and answering emergency calls. The points can vest into money for retirement for volunteers.
“The LOSAP program is a multimillion dollar program that we contribute to (that is) intended for our volunteers to reward them for their service,” Mayor Timothy Gimbel said
• Committee unanimously approved Bridget Heydon as an active member of the Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company. Heydon had previously been training with the company and answered a few of the fire calls before becoming an active member. The move was made to make sure she would be insured when answering the fire calls.
