High school sports roundup: Cherry Hill East boys tennis opens season with win

Cherry Hill West softball was also in action on Monday, losing a tight game at Seneca.

Cherry Hill East boys tennis opened its 2017 season on a high note Monday afternoon as the Cougars defeated Paul VI High School.

Cherry Hill East’s players dropped just one game the entire afternoon in its 5–0 win. First singles player Rahul Goculdas won his match, 6–1 6–0, with all of the other Cherry Hill East players sweeping through their matches 6–0 6–0.

The Cougars will hit the road for the first time on Wednesday, when they visit Lenape High School for a match beginning at 3:45 p.m.

Cherry Hill West softball drops tight game against Seneca

Cherry Hill West softball dropped to 1–2 on the season against Seneca yesterday, as the Lions fell short in a low-scoring, 2–1 game.

Rachel Kubrak knocked in the only run of the game for the Lions. She also pitched six innings, allowing just four hits and two walks. Jade Stubblefield went 1-for-3 with a triple. The Lions were unable to get a tying run across against Seneca’s Eliza Sweet, who struck out eight hitters and allowed no walks in seven innings.

The Lions will be at home in their next game on Wednesday as they host Camden Catholic High School at 3:45 p.m.
