Cherokee High School senior wins gold medals in Regional Scholastic Arts and Writing Award

Cherokee High School senior Nicole Tota has won three gold medals and five silver medals for her short stories and poems.

Cherokee High School senior Nicole Tota has won three gold medals and five silver medals in the Regional Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards for her short stories and poems.

Tota is currently a Gold Medal Finalist in the National Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.

She will be attending a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 8 to celebrate her gold medal as well as read her works on June 9.

Only 1 percent of applicants out of 330,000 receive the honor.

Tota is also the recipient of the first place Walt Whitman Association’s Spring 2016 Contest, and Bernadette Stirdek Award for her poem “Epiphany of a Morning Commute”.

Along with her award has come many publications in “Amazing Kids Magazine,” “Skipping Stones,” and “Teen Ink Magazine.” Her submission in “Teen Ink Magazine” granted her the Editor’s Choice Award in the monthly poetry contest.
