This Life Counts is a suicide prevention and awareness program. The event will take place at the Katz JCC from 7 to 9 p.m.
Jewish Family and Children Services of Southern New Jersey and the Cherry Hill Police Department are presenting This Life Counts Suicide Prevention and Awareness Program on Wednesday, April 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Katz JCC.
The program will offer parents, teens, and tweens an interactive, dynamic, and free workshop to learn about the issues surrounding suicide. They will be able to assess their own risk factors, and will become informed about ways to cope with anxiety and depression. Resources will be shared, and a panel of experts, including a survivor, mental health professionals, and officers of the Cherry Hill Police Department, will present to share perspectives, offer guidance, and take questions from the audience. The program aims to help attendees to be better able to prevent suicide.
Across the nation, suicide was the second leading cause of death among young adults ages 10 to 12, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The rate for 10- to 14-year-olds has doubled since 2000, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Approximately 14 percent of New Jersey High School students say they have considered suicide.
