On Wednesday, March 8, Shawnee High School hosted a “Running and Winning” workshop, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Burlington County and the Alice Paul Institute.
Held during Women’s History Month, the workshop’s purpose was to encourage young women to think about getting involved in the political process and to develop leadership skills. Students from Christine Lorenz’ American Women’s classes had the opportunity to interview female elected officials in small groups and to research this year’s selected topic of minimum wage.
In small collaborative teams they created either a pro or a con campaign speech and a poster on the issue with their group. Speeches and posters were shared with the entire group.
The school wishes to thank teachers Christian Hochenberger and Brian Pistone, and their students, for coordinating the photography and videoing of this event to ensure its success.
