Burlington County Sheriff’s Department to host Senior Citizen’s Police Academy

The Academy will begin on Thursday, March 9.

Burlington County Undersheriff Bryan Norcross announced that the Sheriff’s department will be conducting its Senior Citizen’s Police Academy on seven consecutive Thursdays beginning on March 9 and running through April 20.

The program, which focuses on safety issues important to seniors, is free. Those interested in attending should call the Sheriff’s Community Services Unit at (609) 265–3788.

“Our department is proud to provide senior citizens with the opportunity to gain a wealth of information and knowledge,” Undersheriff Norcross said. “Participants will interact with county law enforcement and public safety staff who will teach them how they can better protect themselves from violence, accidents and consumer fraud.”

Topics that will be covered by officers from the Sheriff’s Department and other county agencies include:

· K-9 Demonstration

· Central Communications

· Burlington Co. Sheriff’s Department — S.E.R.T.

· Traffic Safety

· Personal Protection

· Home Security Program

· Photo Id cards

· BCSD Dept. information

· Contact of Burlington County

· Animal control

· Office on Aging

· Superior Court Presentation

· Firing Range

· Fire Prevention

The classes will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Emergency Services Training Center, located at 53 Academy Drive in Westampton. All participants will also be provided with a Senior I.D. Card. Graduation will be held on the last day of the academy, and refreshments will be provided.
