Lifelong Haddonfield resident passes away at the age of 82
On Feb. 18, 2017, John L. Stanton, also known as Jack, passed away at the age of 82. Stanton was longtime summer resident of Ocean City. He was the beloved husband of Laverna (nee Saul); Loving father of Michael P. (Karin), John F. “Nip” (Susan), David W. (Christina) and Karen Gottardi (Dave); Cherished grandfather of 12 and a great-grandfather of 3.
Jack proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. For many years, he had been the Executive Vice President at Anderson, Jackson & Metts Insurance Agency. Additionally, he was in the Mutual Department at the Garden State Racetrack. Jack started the Garden State Midget Football League and coached for 25 years. He also started the Haddonfield Booster Club, was an avid fan of Haddonfield Athletics, inducted into the Haddonfield Athletic Hall of Fame and a member and former President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jay Cee’s).
Jack’s family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 22, 9 to 10:45 a.m., at Christ the King RC Church, 200 Windsor Ave in Haddonfield. His Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m.. Interment, private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name to the HMHS Booster Club, c/o Haddonfield Memorial HS, 401 Kings Hwy. E., Haddonfield, NJ 08033
