The 2017 budget is the first budget in six years where the district has asked residents to approve a tax increase.
Mt. Laurel residents have approved the 2017 budget for Mt. Laurel Fire District No. 1.
The budget passed with a 76.7 percent approval rate from voters, with 428 votes “Yes” against 129 votes “No.”

The budget is set to increase the district’s tax rate by 1.433 cents, from the 2016 level of 14.4 cents per $100 of assessed value to 15.833 cents per $100 of assessed value.
Mt. Laurel homeowners with an average home value of $237,600 can expect an increase of about $34.05.
Voters also re-elected Phil Roura and Robert Shestack to the district’s Board of Fire Commissioners.
Roura recieved 427 votes and Shestack received 423 votes. Both incumbent candidates ran unopposed.
Write-in votes for the Board of Fire Commissioners included two votes for William Cassidy, one vote for Alex Krish and one vote for Karl Maute.
