The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1.
The Township Council’s Neighborhood Services Advisory Committee will be offering a special presentation for residents entitled “Empowering Parents — A Guide to Social Media.” This forum will be held on Wednesday, March 1 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Medford Public Safety Building, located at 91 Union Street (across from Freedom Park).
During this discussion, Officer Patrick Robey of the Medford Police Department will present an overview of popular social media sites and apps that today’s youth and teens are using. He will also share information on current trends in social media and ways to keep children safe while on social media sites. Facebook and Twitter have been replaced by sites such as Instagram and Snapchat in popularity, primarily because parents and adult caretakers are unfamiliar with these sites and how kids are using them.
Officer Robey made this presentation at Taunton Forge School to parents in late January, and the feedback was that it was a great experience and very informative for all in raising awareness to this important issue.
For those residents interested in this presentation who will be unable to make this event, it will be live video streamed via the Medford Township website and archived for viewing at any time via the same link.
