The Lions advanced to the South Jersey Group IV semifinals in wrestling after defeating Pennsauken, 51–21, on Monday night.
№3 seeded Cherry Hill High School West wrestling advanced in the South Jersey Group IV playoffs last night as the Lions defeated Pennsauken High School, 51–21.
The Lions earned six pins en route to Monday night’s win. John Howe, Kyle Edwards, Joseph Ummarino, Dominic Ummarino, Jayson Peralta and Lorenzo Hernandez all earned pins in the win. Also winning matches on Monday night were Sean Tyler, Shane Tambussi, Pat Durand and Dimitri Serrano.
The Lions will visit Hammonton High School in the South Jersey Group IV semifinals on Wednesday night. Hammonton, the tournament’s №2 seed, defeated Mainland Regional High School on Monday in the first round.
Cherry Hill West girls swimming kicks off postseason with win
The Cherry Hill High School West girls swimming team began its postseason on a winning note on Monday. The №6 seeded Lions defeated №7 seed Toms River South, 100–70, in the first round of the South Jersey Group B Tournament.
A Cherry Hill West swimmer won nine of the 11 races in Monday’s meet. Maggie McMillan and Anna Mecca led the way with two individual wins each. Both swimmers also were a part of the Lions’ winning 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.
The Lion advance to the second round of the tournament later this week. They will visit №3 seed Shawnee.
Other swimming teams at both Cherry Hill East and Cherry Hill West will be kicking off the postseason over the next week. Cherry Hill West boys swimming will begin its postseason today as the №8 seed in the South Jersey Group B tournament. The Lions will visit №5 seed Lenape High School in the first round. The winner will advance to face №4 seed Clearview Regional High School in the second round later this week.
Both Cherry Hill East’s boys and girls swimming teams are the №1 seed in their respective South Jersey Group A tournaments. Both teams received a double bye into the tournament’s semifinals. The semifinals will take place early next week.
