The exploratory kids art studio will be situated at 31 S. MainĀ Street.
The ARTery studio is an exploratory kids art studio and cooperative art space opening up at 31 South Main Street in Medford. Inspired by the need for an outlet for young children to get messy and creative, this concept was derived from similar art studios for children all over theĀ country.
Pushing children to focus on process instead of outcome, the ARTery Studio is designed to be a space full of light and color to help creativity flow. Its hope is to be a place where children and adults alike can come and inspire creative thinking and exploration of various mediums ofĀ art.
Art is important for childhood development which is why the bulk of the ARTery Studioās programming is focused on children. The owners of the studio are physicians who know the importance of creative exploration for childhood development.
Its childrens programming includes developmentally appropriate toddler art and sensory play groups, art classes for children over 2 years old, āmommy and meā classes, storytime yoga, toddler movement classes, creative storytimes and music classes. Classes are a 6-week commitment and are subscription only (online registration required for admittence toĀ class).
Classes vary in content, teachers and approach every period. Every instructor at the studio has a fine arts background, and the spaceās mantra is that it has to let creativity flow through peopleās bodies and it does that by playing, exploring, creating and growing. (Hence the nameāāātheĀ ARTery)
The ARTery is in the process of creating classes that will benefit kids with special needs, including cerebral palsy and autism. It offers drop-in art studio time for all ages, run by certified art instructors with a variety of art backgrounds.
What does this mean for you and your child? You will get to experience all different kids of art and experiment with different kinds of mediums. What they do at the studio will vary every time they go. Keep an eye on its website and social media pages as The ARTery posts about unique workshops for children.
Additionally, the studio offers unique adult programming workshops that include lessons on calligraphy, knitting, tapestry weaving and lettering. It hopes to offer both conventional and offbeat programming to spur and bring back interest and allow exploration of various types ofĀ mediums.
The ARTery also hosts art-centric birthday parties for all ages, and have several themed options and are open to accommodate different visions. The space is also available to rent for private parties, events and community gatherings.
