It’s the second year the police department is holding this event, which offers residents an inside look at the training and behind the scenes activities.
In an ongoing effort to partner with our community to keep our families safe, the Voorhees Township Police Department will host its Second Annual Citizens Police Academy. The Academy will begin on Tuesday, March 14 and will continue the following 10 Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., concluding with a graduation ceremony in May.
The training will take place at our police headquarters and several off-site locations. The course will offer our residents an inside look at the training and behind the scenes activities that make the Voorhees Police Department function in a professional, effective and efficient manner on a daily basis.
The course will cover:
· Firearms Simulator Training
· Crime Scene Investigation/Mock Crime Scene
· A Tour of our Police Headquarters
· Patrol/Investigation Bureaus
· K-9 Unit Demonstrations including a meet and greet with our police dogs
· Police Use of Force/Police Stress
· Central Communications Center (911) Tour
· Traffic Unit/Mock Car Stops
· Internal Affairs/Body Worn Cameras
· Community Affairs/School Safety/Domestic Violence
The academy will host up to 30 Voorhees residents, ages 18 and over. Applicants will be required to successfully pass a background examination including a warrants check, NCIC, driver’s license check and NJ Interstate Criminal History check. Those who are accepted will be notified via email. Selected applicants will also need to complete a waiver of liability form.
Our community members who attended last year’s initial academy had a wonderful experience. They learned about community policing, and had some fun along the way.
Residents can apply for the Citizens Police Academy by visiting our police website at vtpd.com.
