Evesham Police lift ‘Shelter in Place’ at Rice Elementary

With a report of a man chasing kids into nearby woods, police learned the man was trying to prevent kids from throwing rocks at cars.

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

Today, Jan. 11, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Evesham Police Department received a report of a man chasing a group of kids into the woods near Rice Elementary School.

The male was described as resembling the description of a lewdness suspect that was recently distributed by police.

ETPD immediately activated a “Shelter in Place” at Rice School and established a perimeter while awaiting the arrival of a K-9 team.

As a result of the actions of the officers and K-9 team, the children were located along with the male who was reportedly chasing them.

The incident was determined to be related to a resident trying to prevent kids from throwing rocks at cars.

Police announced that they had lifted the shelter about 4o minutes after it had been put into place.

The Evesham Police Department strongly encourages residents to immediately report any type of suspicious activity.
