Letter to the Editor: Future not so bright for many Americans

A Cherry Hill resident offers a rebuttal to The Sun’s recent editorial entitled, “The Future Is Bright For Business.”

Dear Sun,

Here’s a socialist rebuttal to your recent article “The Future Is Bright For Business.”

It may indeed look bright for businessmen, but for the rest of us, the democratic majority, things aren’t looking so rosy. According to most books published in recent years, the internal state of the U.S. is a mess and getting worse.

One problem is our regressive tax system, which doesn’t tax the rich enough. Instead, the onus is on the middle class. Another problem is lack of workplace rights. This explains why many low-end jobs function like revolving doors, with workers being hired and fired almost continuously. And still another problem is our dysfunctional government, which doesn’t provide anywhere near the benefits or services that, say, Europeans enjoy. For instance we have no free national healthcare or college.

But a deeper problem underlies these others; political ignorance. Too many people either don’t vote or vote the wrong way (the recent national elections being a case in point). And that’s where The Sun and other publications come in; you have an obligation to educate people. And your “bias,” if I can call it that, should be for the average citizen, not businessmen.

Let’s try to remember that the Mayflower pilgrims founded a democracy, not a business enterprise.
