Palmyra teen charged in shooting of Moorestown boy

The 17-year-old male from Palmyra was charged on Dec. 13.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the City of Burlington Police Department placed a 17-year-old male from Palmyra in reference to the shooting that occurred on Dec. 8, authorities say. The juvenile was charged with attempted murder along with numerous weapons offenses. He was then transported to the Burlington County Juvenile Detention Center in Pemberton Township where he is currently being held. The arrest occurred at approximately 4:53 p.m. at the corner of York Street and Jones Avenue, in the immediate area of where the shooting took place.

The Criminal Investigation is ongoing in an attempt to identify participants in the altercation that led to the shooting incident with additional arrests likely.

On Thursday, Dec. 8 at approximately 6:53 p.m., a Reserve Officer monitoring city security cameras observed what appeared to be an altercation on the 500 block of York Street involving several subjects. During this time, officers were conducting a motor vehicle stop on the 300 block of York Street along with additional officers responding from the area of East Federal Street. While responding, officers heard gunshots and immediately entered the area where they observed several individuals running from the area. There were no 911 calls during the initial response by officers.

Once on scene, they found a 17-year-old male from Moorestown suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro then transferred to Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he was treated and subsequently released.

This case is currently being investigated by the City of Burlington Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.
