As we speed toward the end of the year, there is a flurry of activity for everyone at the library. There are even special activities planned for the holiday break from school, but let’s begin with the adults today.

Are you all thumbs when it comes to gift-wrapping? Our elves can help you! There are two opportunities to learn the tricks to make your wrapping easier, neater and less stressful. We will even provide wrapping paper, tape and ribbon for two packages. The first session is on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6:30 p.m., and for you last minute shoppers there is a session on Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m.

Begin your New Year with Hypnosis for Stress Relief presented by Margo Orr, a certified hypnotist of Soaring Phoenix Hypnotherapy, on Friday. Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. You will learn the key elements of this relaxation technique in a safe and secure setting and discuss the facts and fiction of hypnosis.

Now on to the children! There will be another Full STEAM Ahead event on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 3:30 p.m. Bring your children between the ages of 5 and 12 to learn more about science, technology, engineering, art and math through play and experimentation.

Our art theme continues with two sessions of Abrakadoodle on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Kids will have the opportunity to create their own masterpiece. Children ages 4 to 6 are invited to come at 2 p.m., and children 7 to 12 are invited at 3 p.m.

Older teens ages 13 to 18 can join us the very next day on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 6:30 p.m. to make Tree of Life pendants, perfect to use as a necklace or key chain. This winter inspired craft will have snowy branches or the red and green of a holly tree.

We finish the vacation week on Friday, Dec. 30 with Weather Wonders at 2 p.m. for those ages 4 to 6, and Harnessing Heat at 3 p.m. for ages 7 to 12. The younger children will be introduced to how temperature, water and wind affect the weather and make a “wind sock” to take home. The older children will Learn about Boyles’ Law and how air behaves when heated or cooled. They will make their own working thermometer!

Don’t forget the library will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 25 and on Monday, Jan. 2 to allow our staff to celebrate with their families

See you next year!
