Evesham Police K9 ‘EZ’ detects heroin during traffic stop

The stop took place in the department’s DDACTS (Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety) zone.

On Nov. 25 at 4:45 p.m., an Evesham Police Officer conducted a motor vehicle stop while carrying out traffic enforcement inside the DDACTS Zone.

“DDACTS” is an acronym that stands for Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety.

The Evesham Police Department relies heavily on collecting crime and traffic collision data to place our officers in areas where there is a significant uptick in social harms.

During the investigation Evesham Police K9 EZ was called upon to assist officers with the detection of narcotics. K9 EZ was walked around the exterior of the suspect’s vehicle at which time she alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the car.

A subsequent search of the vehicle by officers resulted in the discovery of heroin, Suboxone and hypodermic needles.

Arrested:

A female, age 22, of Moorestown, was charged with third-degree possession of heroin, third-degree possession of Suboxone and a disorderly persons offense for possession of hypodermic needles. She was released on her own recognizance.

A male, age 22, of Cherry Hill, was charged with a disorderly persons offense for possession of drug paraphernalia and hindering arrest. He was turned over to the Maple Shade Police Department on outstanding criminal warrants.

As a result of the DDACTS, proactive approach to deploying personnel, the department has experienced a significant decrease in traffic collisions and crimes in the assigned DDACTS Zone and Township-wide.
