High school sports playoff update: Cherry Hill East field hockey kicks off postseason with win

In boys and girls’ soccer and girls’ volleyball, teams from Cherry Hill East and West learned who their first round matchups will be against next week.

Carli Ciocco’s two goals led Cherry Hill East field hockey to a playoff win over West-Windsor Plainsboro South on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cherry Hill High School East field hockey team looked solid in their Central Jersey Group IV first round matchup against West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars controlled the action for most of the game and scored twice in the second half en route to a 2–0 win.

Carli Ciocco scored both goals for Cherry Hill East in a span of less than two minutes late in the first half. The Cougars kept the ball in West Windsor-Plainsboro South’s end for much of the game. Goalkeeper Gabi Valladares earned the shutout, making one save.

The Cougars’ win advances them to the Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinals next Monday, where they will face off against №1 seed Toms River North.

Cherry Hill West field hockey falls in first round

Cherry Hill West field hockey’s season ended on Tuesday at Central Regional High School in the first round of the Central Jersey Group III playoffs. The Lions lost to Central, 3–1.

Shannon Meloche scored Cherry Hill West’s only goal in the game Madison Demand scored two goals and added an assist to lead Central. Abby Spencer kept the game close for the Lions with 16 saves.

Cherry Hill West boys’ and girls’ soccer to kick off postseason next week

Cherry Hill West boys’ and girls’ soccer will both be participating in the South Jersey Group III playoffs beginning next week, according to preliminary brackets released by the NJSIAA.

For the boys’ soccer team, they enter the tournament at the №4 seed after having lost just two games during the regular season. The Lions will host №13 Highland Regional High School next Monday.

The girls’ soccer team will be the №16 seed in their tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. They will visit №1 seeded Delsea Regional High School in the first round.
