Burlington County Sheriff announces free child safety seat checks

The sheriff is reminding residents to prepare for the holiday season and the traveling that comes with it.

Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield is reminding residents that as they prepare for the holiday season and the traveling that comes with it, free child safety seat inspections will be set-up every Wednesday throughout October and November.

Inspections will be held at two separate times, one at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Burlington County Administration Building, 49 Rancocas Road in Mt. Holly.

“In addition to the checkpoints we hold at the County Administration Building every Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Department will also be holding the last on the road checkpoint of the year,” Stanfield said. “Our goal is to continue to provide busy parents with essential services when and where it is most convenient for them.”

The last checkpoint will be held at the Burlington Township Police Department on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program conducts hands-on training for parents and caregivers to ensure that their children’s safety seats are properly installed,” Stanfield said. “The Sheriff’s Department Child Safety Seat Team consists of State Certified Technicians who also check all child seats for safety concerns and recalls.”

The Burlington County Child Passenger Safety Program has inspected over 14,000 child safety seats since its start sixteen years ago.

“According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, research on the effectiveness of child safety seats shows their use can reduce fatalities for children under one-year-old by 71 percent and for toddlers (ages 1 to 4) by 54%,” Stanfield said. “My department is committed to educating parents and caregivers on the steps they need to take to keep their children safe while traveling on our roadways.”
