The Haddonfield Lions Club will conduct free vision and eye health screenings for children and adults on Oct. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Kings Highway in front of the First Baptist Church of Haddonfield.

“The screenings will be performed on the South Jersey Eye Center’s 34-foot long Mobile Vision Clinic vehicle. It’s our privilege and pleasure to do this every year as a service to Haddonfield residents and those in nearby communities,” George Dieser, the club’s Sight First Chairman, said.

The Haddonfield Lions Club currently makes an annual contribution of $3,000 to the South Jersey Eye Center to help fund its eye care services to those in need.

The local event is part of the Lions Club International World Wide Week of Service in sight actions, from Oct. 10 to 16, which raises awareness about vision, eye health and the need for quality eye care services.

In conjunction with the eye screenings on Oct. 15 and Octoberfest events, the Haddonfield Lions Club will hold its 28th annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church basement on Kings Highway and Tanner Street. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausages, coffee, tea, orange juice and good cheer. Funds raised go to support charitable activities of the club’s Blind Fund. Tickets are $7 each, available at the Haddonfield Information Center, from any Lion or at the door.

“Early next year the club will continue its Amblyopia (lazy eye) screening program in Haddonfield, Barrington, Collingswood, Haddon Heights and Cherry Hill. In the most recent year’s results more than 600 children from ages 2–6 were screened,” Bob Miller, chairman of the club’s Kids Sight Program, said.

The Lions Club International is the largest, most active service organization in the world with 1.4 million members in 47,000 clubs in over 200 countries. President Bob Stokes invited men and women interested in joining Haddonfield’s club and becoming part of its community humanitarian service to call him at (856) 429–6597 or call Lawrence Ragone, the club’s membership committee chairman, at (609) 206–2707 for further information.
