Cherry Hill Public Schools has large increase in PARCC participation numbers
A lot more students in Cherry Hill Public Schools took the PARCC assessment in 2016 compared to 2015, according to numbers presented at Tuesday’s Cherry Hill Board of Education work session. Participation rates increased in every grade level last year. Cherry Hill school officials believe participation numbers will continue to climb with the state-mandated change in graduation requirements beginning with the class of 2020.
Municipal taxes to remain flat in Cherry Hill for fifth straight year
Cherry Hill residents will not have an increase in their municipal taxes for a fifth straight year after Cherry Hill Township Council adopted the 2017 Fiscal Year municipal budget at a meeting on Wednesday night. More than a dozen community leaders and residents came out to the meeting to praise Mayor Chuck Cahn and council for the work they have done with the budget the past five years.
Blue line symbolizes unity between Cherry Hill Police, community
Earlier in September, Cherry Hill Township had a blue line painted between the double yellow traffic lines on Mercer Street in front of town hall and Cherry Hill Police headquarters. Township officials painted the blue line to show support for the police department. Cherry Hill Police Chief William Monaghan said the line is a symbol of a united community.
Cherry Hill resident receives big news in recovery from paralysis
In July, “The Cherry Hill Sun” interviewed Ryan DiGiovanni, a resident who was paralyzed from the waist down in a car crash in 2015. Originally, DiGiovanni was given only a 1 percent chance of walking and standing again. That all changed last week as DiGiovanni’s condition was upgraded from ASIA “A” to ASIA “C”, increasing his chances of standing and walking again to 50 percent.
Bat tests positive for rabies in Cherry Hill
A bat found in the basement of a Cherry Hill homeowner earlier this month has tested positive for rabies. The New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the positive test on Tuesday. The bat was found on Sept. 1 in the basement of a home where children were playing. No humans are thought to have come in contact with the animal.
Cherry Hill Police on the lookout for multiple theft suspects
Cherry Hill Police is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects in a number of ongoing theft investigations. In one investigation, police are looking for a woman who is thought to have committed a theft at the Cherry Hill Mall. Police say the woman appears to be in the later stages of pregnancy.
In another investigation, police are looking for a man and woman who are suspected of theft.
