High school sports roundup: Cherry Hill West girls’ soccer pulls out OT win

Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer also won on Monday and Cherry Hill East defeated Cherry Hill West in girls’ tennis.

Katrina Vyzaniaris was the hero for Cherry Hill West girls’ soccer on Monday, as her goal in overtime gave the Lions a 2–1 win over Camden Catholic.

Maggie McCurdy gave Cherry Hill West a 1–0 lead in the second half, but Camden Catholic was able to tie the game late on a penalty kick goal from Danielle Rooney. The late goal from the Fighting Irish sent the game to overtime, where Vyzaniaris scored the game-winner four minutes into the extra session.

Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer topples Camden Catholic

The Cherry Hill West boys’ soccer team cruised to a victory on Monday, as they defeated Camden Catholic on the road, 5–0. Elliot Cumba led the Lions with two goals and Andrew Robertson made six saves to record the shutout for the Fighting Irish.

Cherry Hill East defeats Cherry Hill West in girls’ tennis

Cherry Hill East girls’ tennis continued its fast start on Monday, as they improved to 7–0 with a win over cross-town rival Cherry Hill West. No players on the Cougars dropped a set in the match. Cherry Hill West falls to 0–2 with the loss.

Cherry Hill East boys’ and girls’ soccer teams fall to Lenape

Cherry Hill East’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams came up short on Monday against Lenape High School. On the boys’ side, the Cougars fell to the Indians, 5–2.

Tomasso Cavallo gave the Cougars a 1–0 lead with a goal seven minutes into the game, but Lenape responded by scoring four unanswered goals. Cavallo would add a second goal for the Cougars in the second half. Colin O’Donnell made eight saves for Cherry Hill East.

The Cougars girls’ soccer also lost on Monday, as they were shutout against Lenape, 2–0. Peyton Warrick and Bella Hovis scored in the first half for the Indians. Shannon Mulroy stopped six Cougar shots as she recorded the shutout.
