The following information was provided by the Medford Township Police Department.
On August 31 at 3:09 a.m. the Medford Police and fire units responded to a residence on Tallowood Drive for a report of a fire in the residence. Arriving units located a small fire in a second floor bedroom that was extinguished by the resident prior to arrival. The fire was contained to the bed and there were no injuries reported. The fire was investigated by the Medford Township Fire Marshal’s office and determined the cause to be careless smoking. There was no damage to the residence itself. Evesham Fire-Rescue and Medford Lakes Fire Department assisted Medford Fire at the scene.
On August 30 at 9:11 a.m. the Medford Township Fire Department, police, and EMS were dispatched to the area of Stokes Road in front of the CVS pharmacy for a gas leak. Upon arrival it was determined that a construction company was digging in the area and ruptured a gas service line on Stokes Road. The road was temporarily shut down and the businesses located in the Ironstone Village Complex and at 510 Stokes Road were temporarily evacuated. There were no injuries as a result of the incident. South Jersey Gas responded to location and secured the leak. A police investigation continues.
On August 26 at 10:20 a.m., Medford Police were dispatched to 689 Stokes Rd., at the PIC III for a report of fraud. Patrols arrived and spoke with the business owner who stated that on August 25 at 10:00 a.m., she received a phone call at the business from an individual identifying himself as a Public Service Enterprise Group (PSE&G) representative. This individual stated that PIC III did not pay their bill, and their services would be terminated in thirty minutes if money were not forwarded to the caller by payment of a Green Dot money card. The business owner was instructed to go to the local Rite Aid and purchase the money card, and send $1,798.37. At approximately 2:00 p.m., PIC III received another call from a different individual who identified herself as a PSE&G representative. This individual advised that the first payment was overpaid and rejected, and now a new money card must be purchased and $1,850.00 must be sent or the business’ services would be terminated in twenty minutes. A second money card was sent, and PIC III was now at a loss totaling $3,648.37. On August 26 at approximately 10:00 a.m., a third individual called PIC III identifying himself as a PSE&G representative, and stated that the first two payments were unsuccessful, and requested the business owner respond to an address in Clifton to the “PSE&G Payment Center” and pay $2,000.00 in cash to correct the error. The business owner did not respond to Clifton, and notified Medford Police of the activity. This incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information, please contact Medford Police.
Medford Township Police responded to a home on Evesboro-Medford Road on August 25 at 6:12 p.m. after the homeowners returned and found their residence had been burglarized. The investigation revealed that during the time frame of 9:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered the home and rummaged through several rooms, drawers and closets. An undetermined amount of jewelry and cash was reportedly stolen from the home. Police are asking for assistance if anyone observed any unusual or suspicious activity during the time frame and in the vicinity of the break-in. On August 21 at 5:05 p.m., the Medford Township Police responded to a residence on Eydon Court for the report of a burglary. The investigation revealed that sometime between 12:00 p.m. on August 19 and 5:00 p.m. on August 21 an unknown subject forced entry to the residence through a rear door. The alarm sounded upon the subject entering the residence, which resulted in the subject fleeing and nothing being stolen from the residence.
