We have made it through what was undoubtedly one of the hottest summers and now it is time to get ready to go back to school. There is shopping to be done for new clothes and school supplies. If you haven’t finished that summer reading list, there is still time. Check the library to see how they may be of help.

The end of the month brings to a close the Summer Movie Series. On August 31 at 6 p.m., join the library to watch “Concussion” starring Philadelphia’s own Will Smith as Dr. Bennett Omalu. In Pittsburgh, this American immigrant neuropathologist discovers the truth about repetitive concussions in professional football and is fought by the powerful National Football League (NFL).

Speakingof football, on the same day at the same time there will be the Pinelands Library Parent/Child Fantasy Football Draft. Draft your squad and then manage them over the course of the NFL regular season. The winning team will take home a valuable prize, not to mention bragging rights.

As part of our on-going Retirement Series, Mr Meiyoko Taylor from Wealth Bridge Advisory Services will explain Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA). An IRA is a vehicle for setting aside money for retirement. There are a variety of IRA types, each with their potential benefits and drawbacks. This seminar will cover topics such as how IRAs work, tax benefits and how to stretch your IRA.

In preparation for going back to school, this is a good time to begin moving those bedtimes a little earlier. A few minutes each day now can make a difference once the school year begins.

As always, we still have our in library book sales. There is always a wide variety of topics offered on the bookshelf in the vestibule.

Until next time, keep turning those pages or logging in.
