Gunpoint robbery and Swastika bias painting top this week’s Mt. Laurel Police Report

The following reports are on file with the Mt. Laurel Police Department:

A 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle was stolen from the 600 building of Courtney Way between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 20.

A victim reported that a credit card case was stolen from her purse while she shopped at Wegmans on Centerton Road at approximately 6 p.m. on July 19. Her credit cards were then used at stores in Moorestown, Maple Shade and Burlington Township.

A victim reported that her cell phone and a credit card were stolen while she was at Lifetime Fitness on Church Road between 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on July 18. The victim stated that she placed the phone case on a bench in the family locker room and when she turned around it was gone. The credit card was used at a store in Maple Shade a short time later.

At 1 a.m. on July 19, Mt. Laurel Police responded to a hotel on Route 73 for the report of a robbery. The investigation revealed that three male victims were in a hotel room at 12 a.m. when three men armed with handguns forced their way into the room. The suspects tied the victims up using telephone cords and shoelaces. They ransacked the room while holding the victims at gunpoint. The suspects stole cash, prescription narcotics, video games and a cell phone then fled the area. The victims described the suspects as three black males between 30 and 40 years old. One of the suspects had dreadlocks. Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to call the Mt. Laurel Police.

At 8:11 a.m. on July 18, Mt. Laurel Police responded to the unit block of West Bluebell Lane for the report of a bias crime. The investigation revealed that a Swastika had been painted near the front door of a residence between 11:30 p.m. on July 17 and 1 a.m. on July 18. The victim is Jewish and believes whoever painted the symbol was aware of his faith. Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to contact the Mt. Laurel Police.

At 5:26 a.m. on July 18, Mt. Laurel Police responded to a hotel on Crawford Place for a theft report. An employee reported that at 2:20 a.m. he caught an unknown man going through another employee’s backpack. The employees detained the suspect but let him go because they didn’t believe he stole anything. Later the employee discovered his wallet was missing and his credit cards had been fraudulently used at some nearby stores. An investigating officer recognized the suspect when he viewed a security video. Officers obtained arrest warrants for a male, age 46, of Mt. Laurel. At 8 a.m. officers located the male walking on Church Road near Springdale Road and took him into custody. He was charged with computer related theft, credit card theft, wrongful impersonation, and theft. Bail was set at $15,000 no 10 percent option and he was committed to the Burlington County Jail.

At 1:54 a.m. on July 17, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 38 near Fostertown Road. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 20, of Lumberton. He was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and released pending a court hearing.

At 12:50 a.m. on July 17, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 38 near Briggs Road. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 46, of Willingboro. He was charged with DWI and released pending a court hearing.

At 7:50 p.m. on July 16, Mt. Laurel Police responded to the Cracker Barrel on Route 73 for a theft report. The victim reported that when she was preparing to leave the restaurant she realized that her wallet was missing from her purse which was hanging off the back of her chair. Her credit cards were fraudulently used a short time later at the Target on Route 73 in Evesham.

At 10:46 a.m. on July 16, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 near Clover Road. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 22, of Philadelphia. He was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and released pending a court hearing.

At 6:06 p.m. on July 15, Mt. Laurel Police responded to the ShopRite on Ark Road for a theft report. The investigation led to the arrest of an employee who stole a total of $550 from her cash register over the last month. A female, age 21, of Mt. Laurel was charged with theft and released pending a court hearing.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on July 14, a laptop computer was stolen from a vehicle that was parked in the shopping center parking lot near Target on Centerton Road. A window that was left partially open was forced down to gain entry to the vehicle.

An 82-year-old victim reported that she received a phone call on July 13 from a subject whom she believed was her grandson. The person stated he was in police custody and needed $6,000 for bail. The victim stated she spoke with another subject who claimed to be a police sergeant from the Philadelphia Central Police. He confirmed the need for the bail and instructed her to obtain the bail in the form of iTunes gift cards. The victim did as she was instructed and was subsequently scammed out of $6,000.

A victim reported that on July 11 that he discovered all of the files on his computer were encrypted. When he attempted to open the files he received a message that stated he must purchase 50904 bitcoins (estimated at $336) and send it to a bitcoin account to have his files unlocked. Bitcoins are electronic money that cannot be traced.

At 8:55 p.m. on July 13, Mt. Laurel police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Church Road near Fellowship Road. During the stop officers arrested a female, age 27, of Cherry Hill. She was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released pending a court hearing.

At 12:05 a.m. on July 13, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 near Willow Road. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 48, of Willingboro. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

A representative of the Mt. Laurel Baseball Association reported someone broke into the concessions stand at Laurel Acres Park sometime between July 11 and July 12. A small amount of cash and candy were stolen.

At 3:29 a.m. on July 12, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 near I295. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 35, of Evesham. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

A victim reported someone stole his cell phone and some documents form his unlocked vehicle. The theft occurred between 4:40 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on July 11 while the vehicle was parked in the Best buy parking lot on Nixon Drive.

At 9:06 p.m. on July 10, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Creek Road near I295. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 21, of Bear, Del. He was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and released pending a court hearing.

A resident of Starboard Way reported his residence was burglarized sometime between July 9 and July 10. Someone broke a rear window to gain entry into the residence. It has not been determined what was stolen from the residence.

A victim reported that his credit card was cloned and used at two locations in Mt. Laurel on July 9.

A victim reported that she placed her pink I Phone 6S behind her while she was sitting alongside the skating rink at the International Sports Complex on Hovtech Boulevard at 7:45 p.m. on July 8. When she reached back to get the phone it was gone.
