Week in Review: Cherry Hill community gives thanks to firefighters, Cherry Hill Police

The community rallied around local fire and police agencies, thanking them for their service to Cherry Hill.

Kids were given the chance to hop aboard a fire truck at “Thank a Firefighter” at the Cherry Hill Public Library on Monday night.

There was a lot of thanks going around in Cherry Hill Township this past week. Residents came out to the Cherry Hill Public Library to thank a firefighter on Monday night, while all week long residents gave thanks to the Cherry Hill Police Department in a number of ways. Community rallies around Cherry Hill Police Department

In the days following the tragic killing of five law enforcement officials in Dallas, Texas, Cherry Hill residents, business owners and community leaders came together in support of the police. The Cherry Hill Police Department had a surge of cards, presents, food and other gifts coming in from many different people in the community. Cherry Hill Chief of Police William Monaghan called the amount of support the department received “overwhelming.”

Cherry Hill Public Library receives fire training book donation at Thank a Firefighter event

A nonprofit named Hunter’s Heroes Foundation donated 25 fire-training books to the Cherry Hill Public Library at a special event Monday evening called “Thank a Firefighter.” Hunter’s Heroes Foundation was founded in memory of long-time Cinnaminson firefighter Chris Hunter, who died in the line of duty in 2014. The fire training books are now available to be checked out at the library.

Second fire in less than 10 years hits Short Hills Deli

In the early morning hours of July 12, a two-alarm fire caused serious damage at Short Hills Deli and Restaurant on Evesham Road in Cherry Hill. A large exterior fire on the west side of the building was originally reported. The fire later extended into the second floor soffit area. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Cherry Hill Police searching for suspects

Last Wednesday, Cherry Hill Police released a surveillance photo of a suspect who is thought to have stolen a wallet left behind at the T-Mobile story at the Cherry Hill Mall. Credit cards from the stolen wallet were later used at four eateries in Cherry Hill.

On Friday, surveillance photos were released of two other suspects wanted for separate shoplifting and theft cases in the township. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to contact Cherry Hill Police.

Cherry Hill to apply for county grant for Barclay Farmstead improvements

The Forge Barn located on the Barclay Farmstead property.

At last Monday’s Cherry Hill Township Council meeting, a resolution was passed allowing the township to apply for a $10,000 grant with the Camden County Open Space, Farmland, Recreation and Historic Preservation Trust Fund Grant. If awarded, the grant will be used to create a display at the property’s forge barn for some of the antique tools so residents can view them outside of the farmstead’s open hours.
