The Indian Mills Elementary School will be hosting Camp Invention for the first time this summer. The camp is offered to children entering first through sixth grade and will run from July 11 to July 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
At the camp, children will collaborate to build prototypes while following the example of the National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees. They will also learn how to upcycle and re-engineer with gears and gadgets to develop critical thinking skills and creativity. Furthermore, they will explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) enrichment and will develop solutions to real-world problems.
“I love Camp Invention because I get to create things that I would not do otherwise. Every year we take apart an electronic device and see what is inside,” said 9-year-old Mike McKeown, a fourth grader at Indian Mills Elementary School. “The best part is that I can do fun experiments every day with friends.”
The program costs $245, however families that are registering two children living in the same household can earn $25 off per child. If registering three or more children, $50 off will be awarded all season long.
