Burlington County Sheriff accepting applications for senior home security program

Sheriff Jean Stanfield has announced that her department is accepting applications to provide seniors and individuals with disabilities free home security surveys and modifications.

“Our Technicians provide a top-to-bottom survey of the residence and, where necessary, can install a number of security items at no charge to the resident,” Stanfield said. “These security items include: door and window locks, peep holes, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.”

Other free safety items that may be installed include reflective house numbers, lamp timers, power failure lights, and “med-info” packets that provide emergency responders with important medical information about the residents.

“This program also gives us an opportunity to make seniors aware of the latest frauds and scams,” Stanfield said. “This is a totally free program for seniors and really one that every older resident should take advantage of.”

Interested residents should call (609) 265–5796 to register. To qualify, at least one person in the household must be 60 years of age or older.

“This program has been in operation for more than 25 years and typically serves 300 homeowners a year,” Stanfield said. “In addition to providing home security checks our crime prevention specialists are available to give home security workshops and presentations to clubs, churches, and civic and community groups.”
