South Jersey Ballet Theatre Director Andrea Duffin Conway has announced the company’s spring ballet, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The newly-choreographed full-length ballet based on William Shakespeare’s comedy will include music written by Felix Mendelssohn and feature children of all ages.
“I am particularly excited this year to provide our students with an opportunity to experience a ballet that is both visually stunning and fun,” Duffin said. “Each full length production is an opportunity to gain valuable performance experience, but being part of a debut production has added a level of excitement that is felt throughout the cast.”
A ballet filled with intrigue and dynamic characters — including fairies, pixies and sprites — “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is set in the woodland realm of Fairyland where mischief and whimsy collide, creating love triangles throughout the forest and culminating in an elaborate wedding featuring Mendelssohn’s wedding march.
Keeping with South Jersey Ballet Theatre’s tradition of Mother’s Day weekend performances, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will debut Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m., with additional performances Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 8 at 2:30 p.m.
Girl Scouts and other student groups will have an opportunity to meet the company after the Friday and Saturday 4:30 p.m. shows at a special ticket rate.
All performances will take place at Voorhees Middle School on Holly Oak Drive in Voorhees.
