Medford school district to add new piece

On April 13, the Medford Township Board of Education appointed Marie Goodwin to the position of board secretary of the Medford Township Public Schools.

Goodwin presently holds the position of business administrator/board secretary in the Shamong Township school district.

“I wasn’t particularly looking for anything else. I love Shamong, but at the same time I couldn’t pass up an opportunity like the one Medford Township Public Schools offers,” she said.

Goodwin completed her undergraduate work at Stockton State College and obtained her master’s degree in business administration at Rider University.

Her professional career includes more than 20 years of experience working for the state Department of Education in several capacities, including executive county school business administrator and interim executive county superintendent.

She has also served as a school board member for both Springfield Township School District and Northern Burlington County Regional School District.

In 2014, she was appointed to assume the role of the school business administrator/board secretary position in Shamong.

Goodwin said all of these jobs have culminated in providing her the experience necessary to excel in a district such as Medford’s.

After filling leadership roles during her 10 years with the DOE and getting a first-hand look at the internal working of a school district in Shamong, she has experience with both sides of the operation.

“Now I have the ability to contribute from both the leadership side and the internal operations side. I have them both covered,” Goodwin said.

Her career path has provided her with great knowledge of a multitude of school districts, giving her the opportunity to witness all of the efficiencies and deficiencies they’ve implemented firsthand.

“I’ve worked with many schools throughout Mercer and Burlington County,” she said. “Plus many years in the county office not only provided me with ample knowledge but also relationships with the people I met working there.”

Goodwin’s excitement for the next step in her career path was palpable when she discussed the idea of working with the strong administrative team already in place in Medford.

When she signed on as the board secretary in Shamong, Superintendent Christine Vespe had only been there for a year prior to her arrival.

The structure is much different in Medford, with a longstanding superintendent and an administration that has been together for many years, building chemistry and taking the district to a high level, as Goodwin put it.

“I’m looking forward to getting the opportunity to learn from these people and work with them,” she said. “It’s the perfect district for me.”

Goodwin will assume her new position in Medford on June 13.

“Ms. Goodwin is a welcome addition to the Medford Township Public Schools administrative team,” Superintendent Joe Del Rossi said.
