Evesham Police investigate spent 9mm shell found at Van Zant Elementary School

On Thursday, March 24 Evesham Police were advised by a member of the Van Zant Elementary School of a discovery of a spent 9mm shell casing on the floor of a classroom.

The staff member immediately turned over the shell casing to the school principal who then notified the assigned school resource officer to investigate.

As a result of this discovery, Evesham Police Department conducted a comprehensive search of the exterior of the school along with a search of the interior of school with the assistance from a K-9 bomb detection officer from the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department.

The result of the search was negative for any additional shell casings, firearms or evidence of gun fire.

The police department is confident that this is an isolated incident and that the safety of the children and staff of the Van Zant School were never in danger.

The full-time assigned School Resource Officer is fully aware of the investigation and is working with school officials to continue with the goal of making Evesham Township’s School System the safest learning environment possible
