Coach Howie from “The Young Consumer Program”, who works in conjunction with Shoprite of Medford, came to visit the fourth grade at St. Mary of the Lakes School in Medford.
The activities the students participate in through this program will provide them with a hands-on, minds-on team effort to sharpen skills in language, mathematics, science, social studies and health. The students helped him demonstrate how everyday occurrences, such as utilizing fractions and problem solving, relate to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Several visits are scheduled with the students to prepare them for the culminating activity at the local supermarket in April.
The “Young Consumers Program” has completed fourteen years of community-based education involving children, parents, educators, local businesses, government, and community service groups. ShopRite supermarkets have been the primary source in sponsoring the program.
