The community is invited to Shabbat services where the acclaimed Unity Choir will celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a rousing program of inspirational and soul-stirring Jewish and African American folk and gospel music at their annual MLK Shabbat on Friday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. at Congregation M’kor Shalom, in Cherry Hill.
The group, now in its 12th year, is comprised of 100 members of the M’kor Shalom choir and singers and musicians from churches throughout New Jersey. They will perform under the direction of M’kor Shalom’s cantor Anita Hochman, along with Dr. Beverly Collins, Evelyn Thomas and Donavon Somas. The community is invited, and encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items, including peanut butter, jelly and apple juice, for the JFCS Food Pantry. The Unity Choir will also perform on Jan. 17 at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton as part of New Jersey’s annual King Holiday Commemorative Celebration.
