Letter to the Editor: Ravitz and Nocito committed to making public safety a top priority

Letter

Four years ago I retired from the Voorhees Police Department after 25 1/2 years of service, having obtained the rank of Captain. I loved my career and particularly enjoyed following in my father’s footsteps, Former Voorhees Police Chief Earl Odd. I was born and raised in Voorhees, and have had the distinct pleasure of raising my children in Voorhees as well.

During my time with the Voorhees Police Department, I witnessed firsthand the commitment needed by our local government officials to manage public safety issues during times of crisis. In the past five years, the number of Municipal Employees has dropped from 177 in 2010 to 164 in 2015.

However, during that same period of time, six full time officers have been added and part-time Class II Officers are present throughout the school day in each of our well-respected schools.

This year, Voorhees Democrat Candidates, Jason Ravitz and Michelle Nocito have committed to making public safety of our residence a top priority. Voorhees is a tremendous community to live, play and raise a family. We all go to bed at night safe and secure knowing that a strong, fully staffed Voorhees Township Police Department is there to protect us in times of need.

I dedicated my entire professional life to keeping our residents safe and we continue to have one of the best Police Departments in the entire State of New Jersey. Jason and Michelle intend to maintain a strong, fully staffed police force, they have pledged to keep our town one of the safest in all of Camden County. Let’s continue to keep Voorhees Township safe.

I encourage you to support and vote for Jason Ravitz and Michelle Nocito for Voorhees Township Committee on Nov. 3.

Sincerely,

James M. Odd,

Voorhees Township

Police Captain, Retired
