According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, millions of adults aged 65 and older fall each year. Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries — one out of three older adults’ fall each year, but less than half talk to their health care providers about it.
In an effort to raise awareness of falls, the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties presents a Free Balance Screening and Fall Prevention Education Event for older adults on Monday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Mt. Laurel YMCA Gymnasium located at 59 Centerton Road in Mt. Laurel.
Attendees can test their balance and learn strategies to prevent falling, either at home or in the community. Faculty and students of the Doctor of Physical Therapy-South Program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and provide personalized consultations.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information or to register, please contact Dr. Evan T. Cohen, PT, MA, PhD at (856) 566–7185 or at [email protected].
