Letter to the editor: street safety in Medford
Recently a young mother was killed riding her bicycle on Church Road. This reminded me of a young woman, somebody’s daughter/granddaughter, who was killed on Branin Road about 10 years ago. Most of Branin Road has no shoulder for a car to pull off. Much of the road has a drainage ditch on either side of the road. It appears to be an old farm road. A few years ago a Medford Township Fire Truck plunged into the drainage ditch on Branin Road.
There is a sharp curve on this road where this young woman also lost her life. The speed limit on the road is 50 miles per hour. Why does Branin Road warrant a speed limit of 50 miles per hour?
I recommend that Medford Township, publish yearly in the local newspapers, a list of each major street and road in the Township, with the number of accidents, fatalities, injuries and tickets issued for such offenses as speeding, running red lights/stop signs, careless driving, driving while intoxicated, etc. The citizens of Medford Township can use this information to decide which routes are the safest.
