During the summer months we bask in the luxuriousness of the sun, as time seems to stand still… until we realize it is already August and we haven’t registered for fall sports and activities. We ask, “How do I do this and am I too late?”
Sound familiar? It’s an every summer occurrence in our house, rushing to meet cut off dates and hoping there is still space.
Luckily, the Department of Parks and Recreation makes it a point to save space for all of us who are emerging from the nirvana of our summer and desperately getting ourselves in gear.
This fall, youth recreation sports are in full gear. Starting with our youngest sports enthusiasts, Exposure to Sports is geared to engage youth ages 3 to 5. The fundamentals of sports are offered with a focus on coordination and fun. Tumblin’ Tots will again be offered for children 18 months to 2 years. Youth soccer for boys and girls, grades K-8, and Field Hockey, grades 1–6, for girls are also offered, providing a variety of outlets for all skill groups and all interests.
For those young people more attuned to the visual and performing arts there are Arts Adventures in 3D and Ceramics as well as Arts and Crafts that change and adopt a seasonal theme. Dance starts as young as 3 and in a variety of disciplines — from pre-school ballet to creative ballet to intro to jazz there something to fit everyone’s “groove thing.”
For teens looking for recreational activities there is teen soccer, field hockey and yoga. Looking for a way to involve your teen in volunteer activities? Teens can enroll in the Recreation Volunteer Program and work with youth sports leagues, buddy up in the TOPS Soccer program or get involved with one of the Recreation Departments many non-profit collaborative groups.
Adults seeking something new can check out adult programs like badminton, yoga, fitness and strength building programs. Adults and seniors seeking walking partners are invited to help pilot and join the Recreation Walking Club. Offering mapped out routes that take you through our local parks and neighborhoods is a great way to get out about town. For those wishing some healthy adult competition there is an adult soccer league and adult basketball league. Pickleball is growing and each day the courts are more full. Haven’t tried it? Stop in to check it out!
So again, as the seasons change and we leave summer behind the Department of Parks and Recreation offers many opportunities for residents of all ages. For more information visit the township website at www.moorestown.nj.us/257/Fall-Programs and register today!
