Fourth of July events abound in Evesham and throughout area

Hurricane Arthur may have threatened to rain on Evesham’s parade, literally, but ultimately the bad weather held off and the 2014 Fourth of July parade went on as planned.

Fourth of July events and free fireworks displays abound in South Jersey, and Evesham is no exception.

Stating in the morning on the Fourth of July holiday, the Evesham Celebrations Foundation is asking all interested to join them for the 8th Annual Marlton Mayor’s Cup 5K Run and One Mile Fun Walk.

The event will start at 8:30 a.m. the Evesham Fire Main Street Station, 26 East Main Street. Registration will last from 7–8:15 a.m.

Moisture wicking T-Shirts for race-day registrants while supplies last. There will be MyLaps ChampionChip Electronic timing, mid-race water station, restrooms, and post-race refreshments. The event is rain or shine.

Individual race day registration fees will be $30 for the 5K and $20 for the walk.

Children up to grade 5 are also welcome to ride in the annual Bike Parade at 11 a.m. Bikes can be decorated as long as they can still be operated safely. Participating children must wear helmets.

Children can also be pulled in wagons or pushed in strollers, but they must be strapped in.

Children in wagons without straps must also wear a helmet.

The course begins at Cooper Ave. & Main St. at the registration area, and ends at the Wiley Home. Parents are welcome to walk alongside their child. Please meet at the parking lot at Cooper Avenue and Main Street by 10 a.m. to register to participate.

Following the bike race the annual Fourth of July Parade will then start at 11 a.m. along Main Street.

Later in the day at 7 p.m. the gates will open at Cherokee High School for the annual fireworks display. The fireworks display itself will begin at 9:30 p.m.
