What started as a sidewalk sale for businesses on Main Street in Moorestown 39 years ago has morphed into a town-wide event involving not only businesses, but organizations and groups for a fun, family-friendly day.
The Moorestown Business Association will once again host a slew of exciting and entertaining activities while featuring the local merchants of Moorestown with its 39th Moorestown Day.
Moorestown Day is held on the first Saturday of June, which this year is June 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street, stretching from Church Street to Chester Avenue. The event will take place rain or shine.
“We have vendors, a pie eating contest, Kids’ Zone, theater performances, food, music and more. It’s a big fun, festive day where the streets are closed and it is safe to walk around and enjoy what Moorestown has to offer,” Mark Morgan, MBA member and former president, said. “We’re very lucky to have a Main Street and be able to host this event. It is kind of a gift to the town for us to provide.”
This long-standing Moorestown tradition hosts local merchants with sidewalk sales and booths, featuring more than 200 merchants, groups and vendors lining Moorestown’s Main Street. All spots have already sold out, promising a day packed full of things to see and do.
“There is so much to see and so many people to talk to. It is a great way to find out what is going on in town. It is kind of a billboard of what is going on in Moorestown for both residents and visitors,” Morgan said.
Families with children can enjoy entertainment once again in the Moorestown Day Kids’ Zone, located near the Chester Avenue end of Main Street. The Kids’ Zone will feature giant inflatables, fun games, a petting zoo, camel rides, face painters, a balloon artist and DJ.
“If you’ve never ridden a camel, definitely come and try it,” Morgan said.
Pie Lady Café will host the popular pie eating contest. Sign ups for this event will take place at the cafe.
“The pie eating contest is a really fun thing to see and participate in,” Morgan said.
There is plenty of free parking available on side streets and other open parking lots. However, if you don’t want to park and walk far, Lincoln Technical Institute is providing free parking and a free shuttle service throughout the day. Follow the signs to park in its large lot at 308 W. Route 38, or enter from Harper Drive and look for the LTI buses. The shuttle will drop attendees off at High Street, one block from Main Street and the center of the action.
“Moorestown Day is only once a year, so that makes it really special. It is one of the jewels of the Moorestown event calendar and a great way to kick off the summer,” Morgan said.
