The major forest fire that burned through Wharton State Forest on Thursday was deemed 90 percent contained as of noon, according to Cindy Valloreo of the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The fire was spotted just before 1 p.m. on Thursday by a fire tower. No injuries were reported, but Route 206 was closed due to the mass amount of smoke, and some homes were temporarily evacuated for safety purposes.
It took 55 firefighters, 10 brush trucks, two plow trucks, two helicopters and one airplane to successfully get this fire under control.
