Two Cherry Hill swimming traditions will continue this July.
On Sunday, July 12, the Old Orchard Swim Club host the 47th annual Bob Rueppel Mini-Meet. This premier summer swim meet was established back in 1969 as a means to encourage young children ages 9 and under to experience and enjoy competitive swimming in a fun, relaxed and safe outdoor swimming environment.
Over the years, thousands of children throughout New Jersey have participated in this 61-event swim meet, which includes fun “kick-board” races for the youngest participants. Many of the past Mini-Meet swimmers have truly excelled and have gone on to compete for high school and college swim teams. One of the truly notable “Mini-Meet” alumni is Sean Killion, who swam on the 1992 US Olympic Swim Team in Barcelona, Spain.
This year’s “Mini-Meet” offers a perfect opportunity for “future Olympians” to embrace the wonderful sport of swimming. Participants should register no later than July 6. Warm-up sessions begin at 7 a.m. For additional information about this meet, visit www.oldorchardswimclub.com.
Also on July 12, the Barclay Farm Swim Club in Cherry Hill will host the 23rd annual Joe Crick Midi Meet. This meet caters to children ages 10 through 15 and offers a wide selection of fun races for the swimmers from Camden, Burlington and Gloucester counties.
Register for this meet by July 2. Warm-up sessions begin at 8 a.m. For additional information about this meet, visit www.barclayfarm.org.
