The Department of Parks and Rec Column and Schedule

Due to the overwhelming response to the Summer Parks Program, the Department has coordinated with Moorestown Schools to continue the Summer Parks Programs despite the upcoming construction scheduled for Baker School and South Valley School.

The Summer Parks Program is June 22 and run through July 24. The Summer Parks Program, known for its relaxed and fun atmosphere will again offer young people ages 5 to 12 the opportunity to play, learn and grow with friends. Locations for the Summer Parks Program will be New Albany Recreation Center (Jeff Young Park), Roberts School and the Moorestown Upper Elementary School. The Upper Elementary School will offer the same relaxed atmosphere of the Baker and South Valley Camps as well as new opportunities due to this amazing facility. Youth interested attending the Summer Parks Program are welcome to enroll at any of the three 2015 locations. Please contact the department with any questions. Enrollment is going on now!

Summer Children’s Theater, ages 7 to 13, begins on Monday, June 22 and will run through August 1. Summer Theater will take place at William Allen Middle School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily and will be performing “High School Musical, Jr.” The Summer Theater Studio for Teens, ages 14 to 18, that is performing “Into The Woods, Jr.” will also be located at WAMS in the afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. The new Sumer Theater Studio for teens will be a specialized theater program focusing on techniques and theater training geared toward older youth.

The Four Is Fun program begins on Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 30. Four Is Fun, returns again this summer after its incredible debut in summer 2014. The Four Is Fun program is 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday weekly. The Four Is Fun pre-school program is located at the Church Street Recreation Center. This fantastic facility will offer preschoolers a complete compliment of age appropriate learning and activities.

Additionally, the Special Needs Summer Recreation Program will return again at WAMS with an extension of services. Due to a generous donation from the Sean Fischel Connect organization, the Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to announce the extension of the Special Needs Camp to students ages 12 to 18. The Special Needs Summer Program has provided services to students up to sixth grade for the last decade. This year with the help of Sean Fischel Connect these students who have “aged out” of the original program are now able to continue their summers in the loving and supportive arms of the Special Needs Camp and its staff. Special Needs Summer Program will be divided into two specific age groups: ages 5 to 13, students transitioning to first through sixth grades, and ages 12 to 18, students transitioning from sixth grade through twelfth grade. The Special Needs Summer Program will run Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31 with Mondays through Thursdays 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Professionals, certified teachers, educators and para-professionals oversee each program and are aided by trained and carefully selected counselors and volunteers in the CIT Jobs Training Program. Each program boasts the best combination of staffing available. This is combination with the departments’ relationships with local non-profits and organizations allows the Moorestown Department of Parks and Recreation Summer Programs to be among the best in the state.
