As the nation’s population continues to become more diverse, the Burlington County Library System will join libraries across the country celebrating El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) BCLS will participate in the celebration by presenting “Building STEAM with Dia,” a five-week series of science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities for children beginning in April,

Known as Dia (Diversity in Action), El día de los niños/El día de los libros is an ongoing, nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

BCLS was one of 18 library recipients nationwide to be awarded a $1,500 mini-grant from the American Library Association, The Association for Library Service to Children, and Dollar General to fund the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) related activities.

Recommended for children ages 7 to 12, the BCLS “Building STEAM with Dia” program will be presented at the County Library in Westampton, and the Maple Shade, Evesham and Pemberton branches. Participants will experiment with building kits, create art, and learn about artists, scientists and inventors from diverse backgrounds. Younger children are welcome with adult assistance, and attendance at all sessions during the five-week program is not required.
