Freeholders announce E-waste recycling and document shredding event

Freeholder Director Mary Ann O’Brien announced that county residents will have their first opportunity this year to shred confidential documents and safely dispose of computers, TVs and more on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex, 22,000 Columbus Road in Mansfield.

“Last year over 3,800 residents participated in six events, bringing in 109,420 pounds of documents for shredding and recycling 137,801 pounds of ‘E-waste,’ freeholder director O’Brien said. “The event will be as convenient as ever for our residents who can keep warm in their cars, while volunteers unload their items.”

Residents are urged to bring only “confidential” documents for shredding, such as bank and credit card statements, tax returns or papers with social security numbers. They will be shredded on-site. Please, no binders, plastic folders, computer disks or plastic credit cards. Up to four bags or boxes per car will be accepted. Already-shredded paper can also be recycled at this event.

In addition to TVs and computers, accepted E-waste includes laptops, monitors, computer keyboards, mice/cables, printers, desktop copiers, scanners, fax machines, VCR/DVD/MP3 players, cell phones, game consoles and rechargeable batteries. Residents can also bring old strings of holiday lights, microwaves, stereos/equipment, record players, vacuum cleaners, irons, toasters, blenders and mixers to be recycled.

This event is for Burlington County residents only. ID is required. No businesses, please. For more information call (609) 499–1001 or email [email protected]
