Spring Hills Cherry Hill Luxury Assisted Living celebrates the Year of the Ram with a performance by the University of Pennsylvania Penn Lions on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. The residents and staff at Spring Hills Cherry Hill are inviting the public to join them at this event. The Chinese New Year will ring in this year on Feb. 19 and is the Year of the Ram.
Members of the Penn Lions will perform a traditional Lion Dance intended to spread the wish for a wealthy and prosperous New Year through their dance. The troupe will first speak to the residents explaining the history of the Lions and their dance. After the performance they will take pictures with the residents and join them for a traditional Chinese buffet including spring rolls, lo mein and sweet and sour chicken, prepared by Chef Brian Schleper, Spring Hills’ Director of Dietary Service.
The residents welcome the opportunity to see the performance and learn about the traditions involved in celebrating the Chinese New Year.
“The residents can’t wait to see a traditional Lion Dance performance. We’ve all seen these dances before but we don’t all know that there are many myths and legends behind the history of it or that the dance is believed to bring prosperity, good fortune and good luck to the people,” says Stacy Gibson, director of recreational services at Spring Hills Cherry Hill. “We’re all very excited to learn all about it.”
