Carol: Must See Now

Mark Wahlberg gives a terrific performance as an addicted gambler and risk taker. Such insight into the mind of a gambling addict — it’s a bit frightening to see how such an addiction can take hold of ones entire life.

Phil: Must See Now

Full disclosure: I like Marky-Mark! Always have. So I have a bias. i also play a little poker. So, all considered, I liked this movie.

American Sniper (Rated: R)

Drama

Carol: Worth the Matinee Price

Bradley Cooper was nominated for Best Actor by the Academy. Whether he wins or not will be revealed in February. Meanwhile, you should see this film about war. It is very graphic and, if you haven’t thought about what it is like to do a tour in our on-going conflicts in the Middle East, you will know exactly what it is like by the end of the this film. It is almost as if you are there fighting alongside of Chris Kyle, the character played by Bradley. Disturbing but enlightening to say the least!

Phil: Wait for the Video

More an apology for the war in Irag than a “war movie” aka Guadalcanal Diary. I don’t know what I expected but it wasn’t this. Neither hawk nor dove, the movie leaves us moved but confused as to why.
