Fun for Fosters hosts their 2nd annual toy drive on Dec. 20

Fun for Fosters will be hosting their 2nd annual toy drive in Kings Court in Haddonfield this Saturday, Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last year they amassed 300 toys; however, this year they hope to double that number thereby showing foster children there really is a Santa, but he lives within all of us.

“Fun for Fosters was created in 2014 with one simple goal: to improve the lives of foster kids in New Jersey,” said Matthew Steffen, president of Fun for Fosters. “While no one in our special interest group interacts directly with the children, the knowledge that we can create situations in which foster children can feel loved and valued was the genesis of Fun for Fosters’ formation.”

Foster children are four times more likely to develop an emotional disorder versus their non-fostered peers, as well as are twice as likely to drop out of high school. However, the plight of foster children largely goes by unremarked and unnoticed due to the blanket of security that agencies typically put into place in the interest of ensuring the safety of each child in the foster care program.

“I have always been a firm believer that the private sector can do amazing charitable work for the public good. All we ask is that people dedicate either a bit of their time or money toward improving the lives of foster children, and the response from the community has been overwhelmingly supportive,” Steffen said.
