On Nov. 13 I had the opportunity to observe a child in kindergarten at the Osage School. As a professor, editor and educational consultant, I’ve probably observed well over 150 schools and classes in several states and Canada, and as I’ve taught many graduate classes about evaluating classes and lessons, I have a well-researched and a well-seasoned gauge for evaluating instruction. What I observed at Osage was excellent. The children were happy, engaged and involved in important work, in ways that added to their learning and motivation. As they mastered academics, they were also learning critical social competencies. To Osage’s credit, this was typical of the classes and events I previously observed at Osage. Voorhees is lucky to have such a wonderful school, staffed by highly caring and competent people. It’s tax money well spent.
