At the end of every sporting event, for every player, team or coach who is elated and celebrating victory there is another side dejected and thinking about what may have been. It happens to all teams eventually, such is the way in sports.
Unfortunately for the Shawnee High School girls’ soccer team, it happened to it just last week in the South Jersey Group IV sectional final.
Shawnee fell to district rival Lenape 1–0 in front of a packed crowd at Lenape High School on Friday, Nov. 14. The two teams played to a 0–0 draw for more than 76 minutes before Lenape senior Lizzie Kinkler scored the game winner with 3:40 remaining in regulation. The loss was a disappointing end for the fifth-seeded Renegades who defeated top-seeded Williamstown in the sectional semifinals three days prior to squaring off with Lenape.
Senior goalkeeper Caroline Farley had 18 saves for the Renegades in the loss.
